THE LAW SCHOOL BUILDING LOYOLA
UNIVERSITY
New Orleans, Louisiana
This building is located on a shady, tree-lined street
on the eastern side of the Campus. The concrete-framed building has a three-story
base with about one-half of the building extending up two additional floors. The
entire front of the building and one side has two-story tall, white, architectural
concrete columns with an exposed aggregate finish supporting the third floor which extends
over a covered veranda. The facade from veranda to ceiling is glass and Andes black
granite. White exposed aggregate concrete is also liberally used on the interior.
Portions of the other sides of the building have a board finish concrete exterior.
The structural system uses conventional reinforced concrete construction in the
five-story portion of the building. The three-story part is framed with long span,
post-tensioned concrete beams for a column-free interior. The foundation system uses
50-ton, concrete-filled pipe piles. |
